If you could spend an afternoon with any character in the book, who would you choose and why?

Over the twenty-year span of the book, were there specific moments or life stages where you felt especially connected to Anne? What was it about those experiences that resonated with you? 


Were there moments in the book when you found yourself inspired by a certain perspective? 

Were there times when you felt frustrated? Did you disagree or feel confused by some of Anne’s choices? What would you have done differently?

Did any of the characters/neighbours remind you of people in your own life? Did any of the stories challenge you to think differently about community, kindness, or connection? 

Throughout the book, different perspectives on ‘who is your neighbour’ were explored—whether it’s a physical neighbour, a global neighbour, being a neighbour to yourself, or in your relationships. Which version of being a good neighbour resonated with you the most, and why? 

Was there anything a character did or said that stuck with you—something you would like to incorporate into your own life? 

There were four deaths in this story. Which one, if any, had the biggest impact on you? Did it bring up any thoughts or feelings about the different ways we grieve and honour those who have passed?

Near the end of the book, Anne reflects on how every decision opens the door to the next. Which decisions in her life had the greatest ripple effects?  What about in your own life? Can you think of a decision that had unexpected or lasting ripple effects?

Anne’s spiritual journey is woven throughout the book, influencing her relationships, choices, and understanding of what it means to love her neighbours. Do you think her spiritual beliefs shaped her life decisions, or did her life experiences shape her spiritual journey more? Have you ever experienced a moment where a life event deepened or challenged your own beliefs?
